Photo2021 International Photography Exhibition opens in Melbourne
We are pleased to announce that our exhibition for ‘Photo 2021 International Festival of Photography’ is now open at the Melbourne Royal Botanic Gardens, running until the 7th of March.
Curated by Isobel Parker Philip, the exhibition is titled “Garden Variety: Photography, Politics and the Picturesque”, and is an outdoor exhibition carefully designed in response site, showcasing the work of 6 contemporary artists.
Garden Variety challenges the idea that a garden exists and functions as an idyllic and politically neutral space. Sensitive to the symbolism attached to the site, the exhibition addresses the many functions and identities of Melbourne Gardens - as a picturesque landscape and scientific institution, but also a marker of colonisation and an occasional backdrop for displays of soft power. A place for pleasure but also political performance, a civic space that carries (horti)cultural capital.
Our designs could not have been realised without the close collaboration with specialist fabricator Durwin Lambe from Custom Industrial.
